“Why did they come today…? Why didn’t they come any other times when abuse was happening…”
Greetings!
She was only nine years old. The person abusing her wasn’t a stranger, it was her own father. And she wasn’t the only victim. Her six-year-old little sister was suffering the same unimaginable abuse.
After they were rescued, detectives sat down to interview the older sister. In the middle of recounting her own trauma, she paused and asked them a question of her own.
“Why didn’t they come the other times?”
“Why?”
Why can’t more children be rescued more quickly?
Why didn’t they come to her and her little sister sooner?
The answer is there is not enough resources.
Not enough funding.
Not enough detectives.
Not enough help.
Every year, more reports of child exploitation pour into law enforcement agencies. But while the number of tips keeps climbing, the number of detectives hasn’t. They’re being asked to do more with the same limited resources leaving thousands of cases waiting and children waiting to be found.
The people protecting our children are carrying wounds most of us will never see.
Day after day, they sift through the darkest evidence imaginable…abuse, exploitation, and unimaginable evil. All so predators can be stopped and children can be rescued.
