“He Ain’t My Kid!” is the title of the first chapter of my book and it begins the story I know God wants at-risk teens to hear. I thought you’d enjoy reading some excerpts from the book. My testimony is to God’s unfailing love and in the book I tell it like happened–raw and uncut, so that troubled young people can connect with the Gospel.
Here’s how the first chapter begins:
He ain’t my kid. Those were Daddy’s first words when he found out that my mom was pregnant with me. No hugs and kisses for Momma. No cigars for the neighbors. No words of praise for the future All Star Champion and President of the USA.
(That’s me, in case you’re wondering.) He only welcomed me with denial.
“He ain’t my kid.”
If there had been a window on the womb, here’s what I would have seen the last night my parents were together. I would have watched my dad in a rage, pinning my mother to a bed and trying to shove rosary beads down her throat. He ended up punching a hole through the wall instead of my mother. Not exactly what you’d call the happy couple.
Later in the book I write:
Before my freshman year ended, I got revenge on a dude who was always pushing and hitting and bullying me. He had come to expect that I’d passively take whatever he dished out. Then one day I surprised him by turning on him like a chainsaw. I beat the tar out of him, right in front of all the kids who were walking to their buses. He kept screaming as I hammered him about the head and shoulders. That bully never picked on me again. In fact no one else did either, at least not without me fighting back.
How God began to get my attention:
One day a visiting evangelist came to our church to preach. About four hundred people attended the service that day. As the man preached, he suddenly pointed straight at me and said, “God wants you to know something!” Then he motioned for me to come up front. I didn’t want to go but I was too scared to run. When I arrived at the front of the church the preacher said, “God wants you to know He’s going to use you in a mighty way. God’s going to use you to be a mighty man for His glory. You’re going to be used as a rod of love to keep people from destroying themselves. God wants you to know that He’s got plans for you…big plans. God is going to use your manliness as a heavenly tool to help troubled people keep from destroying themselves.”
And that was just the beginning…
We are hearing almost daily from troubled young people and chaplains in the facilities that my honest, straight-from-the-shoulder story rings true in their lives.
Please pray for our efforts to see that young people know that God loves them and that He, just as He did with me, has a plan for changing their lives.
And if you’ve read the book already, I’d love to hear what you thought about it. If you haven’t read the book, you can click here to order a copy.

I implore everyone to read Victor’s amazing testimony in his book. It is so encouraging to see how God uses a fellow depraved brother to further the Kingdom in some of the world’s darkest places. We serve a God of redemption, were saved from our sins through Christ’s redemptive sacrifice, and get to co-labor with Christ in bringing renewal and redemption to the world. Praise God and thank you Victor for your vulnerability and for speaking the truth.
Read the book in one sitting. Passed it on. Amazing to see how God is using this story of a young boy who thought he had no hope to bring glory to the God of all hope! Thanks for sharing your story Victor. HE will bless your simple obedience of writing it down and sharing it with the world.
Victor! I just want to thank you for telling your story! My nephew just came to live with us a couple weeks ago, he’s from the “hood”, just getting off drugs, and out of a gang, he’s 26,married with 2 girls, and wanting to change his life, of course we’ve told him the GOSPEL,..then we said “hey you might wanna read this” he’s NOT a reader but he has NOT put that (your book) book down!Even when we’re in the car he’s reading it, He’s dislexic, so its taking him awhile,he’s almost done,..he’s been asking ALOT of questions! He said, “man i cant believe he’s so in love with God even after all he’s been through”! we told him you visit Calvary Houston every once in awhile, you JUST LEFT! He barely missed you,he now wants to meet you! Anyways we love your ministry and will continue to lift you up in prayer! God Bless!
