Give me your eyes for just one second…. This is how Brandon Heath begins thechorus in a song he sings. This single statement has been a prayer of mine since I was asked to speak toa couple hundred girls who were incarcerate back in 2005. My first response to theopportunity was “ What on earth could I share with a bunch of hard girls whohad committed such crimes that would have them sitting in prison”I felt that I had nothing to share with them that would matter to them or that wouldeven make a difference. Then I began to pray and ask God what He would have meshare with these young women. He told me to tell them how much He loved themand how He created them, He wanted them to know that He has a plan for each lifeand that each life is sacred, not a mistake or an accident.I asked God to give me His heart for these girls…. Well, He did. He showed me howbroken, lonely, desperate and how hurting these girls were.I can tell you my heart changed, my heart broke for these hurting girls, I didn’t seethem as hard girls anymore, I saw them with the Love of God.Praying this prayer has not only changed my perspective for these locked up youth, but for people everywhere. There are people all around who are hurting, lonely, desperate and needing to know that they are loved and that there is a purpose fortheir life. What would happen if this became your prayer?
